Ruben was born on April 9, 2007, at 10:38 am.
He weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces and measured 20-1/2 inches long.
Ruben is named for his great uncle, Ronald Waller, the twin of his maternal grandmother. Uncle Ron is fondly remembered for his incredible humor, sense of wonder about the world, gentleness, and selflessness. May the memory of Ron's kindness and empathy provide guidance for Ruben as he makes his way in this world.
His middle name was chosen in memory of his paternal great grandmother, Lillian Cooper Goldman. May he inherit her longevity, love of language, and wit. The name is a variation of Lazar, an important given name elsewhere in Ruben's father's family. Great-Great-Great Grandfather Lazar Eli Kosowitzki was first member of his family to visit America from Bialystok in the 1870s, and his grandson Lazar Kusovitsky died in the Bialystok ghetto in 1943. The name also honors them, as well as Emma Lazarus, poet and great citizen of New York City.
Finally, the nickname Rockley is a tribute to the persistence and charm of Ruben's older brother. Milo declared very early on that baby brother-to-be would be named Roccoli, and would not be persuaded away from this creative vision. Hopefully Rockley is a compromise that both he and Ruben can live with.
